And I did not see anyone allowed to cut with an escort in the 75 minutes I spent in this line, either, so this is clearly not a viable option to depend on.
It is kind of funny that Belgium will only supply four people to work the outbound passport control booths at peak hours, but the airport has at least 5 people on duty just tending to this insufferable line. BRU is seriously about the most horrible airport in EU, if not the world (at least for those of us without EU passports who are entering/leaving the Schengen zone). You are better off flying to CDG or AMS and taking a train, it will be faster.
I have to agree with you that the lines to customs after landing are TERRIBLE at BRU ... but I think the discussion here (after someone's comment) .. was : should someone do for instance YOW -> YYZ -> BRU ... or YOW -> YUL -> BRU ... and not "Should you avoid BRU at all" ... if you fly AC to BRU (YYZ or YUL) .. you'll end up in the same customs ...
In my case because Montreal is well covered for every major European business hub with non-stop flights, when I fly to BRU it's because I have business in the city or surroundings ... So no choice to suffer that painful line ... but I did have the experience with the SE Concierge but I have to admit that it was a few years ago .. so maybe it's not allowed anymore??
In any case I think you are slightly exaggerating ... flying to CDG ... customs .. exit .. walk to train .. wait for the NEXT TRAIN (might be 1 hour+) ... Thalys to Brussels South .. will NOT be faster than customs and Taxi at BRU !!! (well MOST OF THE TIME)
