This is, of course, a sick joke. The vast majority of Euro travellers carry on more than 1 (often up to 4-5) pieces of hand luggage. I find (and I'm not being sexist) that this is normally caused by women. Hand bag + travel bag + plus X number of duty free shopping bags. I once helped a fellow passenger load her 4 bags, one of which weighed roughly (I would say) 10 kilos on its own, into the overhead lockers.
Note to people who think carrying 4-5 bags onto a single-aisle short-haul flight is big/clever/funny -
IT ISN'T
Along with BA's total neglect of priority boarding (for CE/Silver/Gold) it makes travelling in ET a nightmare. I have flown maybe 40 times in ET and Dom over the last couple of years, and on EVERY flight the overhead bins were packed, with people putting their bags wherever they could find space. I always stress about getting on the plane first, so that I can at least position my bag somewhere near where I'm sitting....
All it takes if for BA to actually bother applying two of their rules (they're all too keen to apply rules when it suits them):
1. Priority boarding for CE, Silver and Gold on ET and Dom flights
2. ONE piece of hand luggage
MEANS ONE PIECE. It DOES NOT MEAN one piece, plus a hand bag, plus some shopping, plus whatever.
Come on BA, sort it out.
