Questions around being randomly selected at DEN
This morning, I was randomly selected going through the WTMD at Denver.
They wanted me to go through the scanning, but I can't due to a medical problem, and aside from that, I wouldn't go through that anyways.
The clerk then did an aggressive full-body patdown. He then swabbed his gloves, and said he also needed to use a handheld metal detector.
Somehow that set off my shoes. He said I needed to take off my shoes so he could send them through the x-ray and inspect them. I informed him that I need to keep my shoes on on doctor's orders. His response was: "This isn't a hospital".
I asked for a 3-striper who said the same thing, then a manager came, along with the TSM, who aggressively asked for my boarding pass, name, and info, so he couldn't tell the airline that I wasn't flying today, as I wasn't complying with screening.
Under normal circumstances, I would have left, but I am teaching a class this week.
They also involved DPD, and claimed they had to x-ray my shoes.
In the end, I let them do it, and they cleared me. It did take me a few minutes to deal with the shoes, but it is what it is.
I'm curious if there was a different option, and if I had told them I wanted to end the screening process, what the ramifications would have been. Had I wanted to leave, would they have had to collect my info? Because I never gave them any info. They did freak out when I took their pictures with my phone, and wanted my phone, "because I wasn't cleared".
I also asked for the FSD, but they told me he wasn't there today.
