Checked-in via the app, was surprised that TAG didn't feature anywhere on OLCI, but eventually noticed "Update Tag" on the app and was able to send the tag successfully to the TAG.

Arrived at Heathrow T5 and asked where was best to drop my bag. The floor walkers were all quite fascinated and none had seen a TAG in the wild before. Used the self-service bag drop, and the screen instantly asked me to scan the TAG. Bag dropped successfully. Time saved (in not sticking on a paper tag) probably 10 seconds.

The return was not so slick. Checked-in via the app and updated the tag without issue. Arrived at the airport - Mykonos is one of those slightly strange airports with a central bag drop and security scan (as most often seen in the US). I assumed as my bag was already tagged I could go straight to the drop off line but was directed a check-in desk. The handling agent (BA scarf, Easyjet accessories) was insistent that TAG was only available when flying from Heathrow. A lengthy discussion with colleagues ensued. Eventually a paper tag was printed, carrying the same number as the TAG, and I went to queue again at the central bag drop. Time saved minus 30 minutes.

I have emailed BA with feedback.

Update Tag

Thanks for the review. My initial impression that this is technology for technology's sake has not changed. Unless the cost of adhesive backed paper goes up by a factor of 1000, the tag goes down to £5: or they include a gps tracker in the tag for the same price it's a waste of time
