So this connection is right at the MCT but perfectly legal. It's certainly tight and doesn't leave much room for error, but it's far from the end of the world, completely do-able even with checked bags. Whether it's one ticket or separate tickets AA will just rebook you on the next flight if things were to go wrong. I wouldn't stress at all.
I believe this is spurious ... it causes EF to often suggest I-D connections at LAX of 90-120 minutes, but they are never bookable. I've been fooled by this many times, thinking I could get an itinerary from EF and discovering after much effort that I couldn't.
