No need to apologize (let alone roll your eyes), most people, including airline employees, don't know the difference between a technical stop and a regular, scheduled stop.
From the ICAO DATA+ GLOSSARY: "
Technical stop. A stop most commonly used to refuel the aircraft, to make unexpected essential repairs or to respond to some emergency need to land the aircraft.
