No need to apologize (let alone roll your eyes), most people, including airline employees, don't know the difference between a technical stop and a regular, scheduled stop.

From the ICAO DATA+ GLOSSARY: "Technical stop. A stop most commonly used to refuel the aircraft, to make unexpected essential repairs or to respond to some emergency need to land the aircraft. No traffic is unloaded or loaded during a technical stop." [underline added]
