In china you don't need Maps according to me if you know basic Chinese characters and most importantly know the plan where to go.
Usually big cities people know well enough English. you can communicate with them quite easily but slowly. second there alot of people willing to help you. will tell you all the ways and etc. third in china most of foreign sites are blocked now still there are plenty of english version of different chinese apps. such as Amap is english version of Chinese baidu Maps. that will gonna help you too. with buses routes subways etc.
