I don't care if it's a Motel 6, it seems pretty extreme to call patrons expecting some kind of communication from mgmnt about a service issue "entitled."
Surely the hotel is expecting status updates from the failed service provider, or the emergency crew. Are there also undeservedly "entitled"?
Just pass along what information you have instead of claiming ignorance because you don't want to be bothered or just stonewalling. If you don't know, say so. Don't as reported by the OP, just disappear. Btw, the reported inaction during the fire drill was inexcusable.
I was in a Marriott in Westchester County that had an early morning fire alarm. Staff kept people moving to people gathering areas and made informational announcements every 10 minutes or so. The kitchen staff was preparing coffee service when the all clear was announced. Even then, the staff kept customers informed about the staged resumption of elevator service. IMO, the hotel's actions weren't extraordinary, just what would, and should, be expected.
