AA protects across its own separate tickets so long as they meet MCT. This transfer does not. It would be an illegal connection and thus should not be bookable as one ticket and OP runs the significant risk of having his onwards ticket cancelled if he no shows.

Also worth noting that AA does not check bags across tickets. Thus, unlike a connection where the bags will be tagged to their destination and all OP need do is drop them post Customs, here is will need to wait to recheck.

As separate tickets this all comes down to OP's risk tolerance as he will likely bear 100% of that risk.
