I wonder how many are actually losing money v. not making enough so resources will be allocated to potentially more profitable routes, which raises the "short term return v. playing the long game" strategy. To succeed at SFO requires a long game strategy. On the other hand, flying SFO/PDX or SFO/SEA might just become super pleasant, at least on the northbound, in a nearly-empty terminal with great F&B options and what will be no doubt a lovely lounge space.
