I booked once (for the last time) a BA hand baggage only and the return was operated by AA. To my own surprise I was allocated (a rather good one though) in the MCE section without a seat neighbour. I am BA Silver/ OWS.

I had to pay extra to change to bulkhead (which was in the end refunded as flight was not operating). No free selection offered.
