can't we just assume that the MBAs in dallas that have access to all of the data (loads, fare classes typically bought per route, etc.) are using said data to maximize the profits of the airline thereby hopefully keeping said airline afloat thereby increasing the probability that said MBAs will stay employed thereby insuring paychecks and (flight) benefits to/for said MBAs?

But are you convinced they are MBAs? I am willing to bet that MBAs run the department, but it is statistics PhDs and MScs that do the real (read: back office) work.
