Change the program? YES. But to keep an aspect of the program status quo but change everyone's earning preferences? NO. That is unethical at best.
And judging from the fact that my father is top tier at 3 different hotels and counting, he is not home long enough to read statements. And emails can be looked over, especially during someone's busy time. He wouldn't have caught it now if I wasn't going over his US miles to see how many tickets he does have. It is just one of those little intricacies that got overlooked.
And he could have been confused by the wording variable miles versus fixed miles. I see now what it is after looking at it and reading the thread. But it could easily be confused. He could have gotten the email, saw he was still earning miles, and just left it at that. I don't know how it happened, but I'm glad I caught it when I did.
