what is the traffic like fromm the area around the old airport, to the new airport? there are numerous options there, but I am not sure on travel times at busy parts of the day.

May I ask, would you mind paying a taxi both ways, this would help at giving a suggestion to you.
Otherwise, I would suggest hotels with direct public transportation access to the airport.
