Merry: thank you very much for providing the EC UK Hotline No. I was able to switch SSC seat assignments from Row 12 ABCD to the bulkhead row 11 ABCD (my prefered seats on Speedbird) LHRJFK and also the return flight - as you said it took just 24 hours. All this after being repeatedly advised by EC Cont. Europe at Bremen, Germany, that rows 1 to 5 and 11 are not in the system. My respect to EC UK for their superior service.
