I have done it on a BKK-FRA-AMS flight on Lufthansa. I wanted to just end in Frankfurt. I asked the nice lady at the Lufthansa counter in Bangkok if she could just check the bag to Frankfurt and she said no problem. I was surprised but it all worked out, I was prepared to fail and then have to fly to AMS and then by a flight back to FRA, but I didn’t fail.

All you you can do is try. 7 hour layover is a compelling excuse for asking for a short check. Good luck.
