WN changed its policy -- in COC terms -- about a year ago. It now, just like most other carriers, prohibits impossible and other bookings and can be quite aggressive about cancelling.

Isn't this the one where it makes sense to book the later flight and then standby for the earlier if you can make it? If you book the earlier, no show, and an agent does rebook you, it might mean sitting around the airport all day as flights depart full. Bird in hand....
