Resurrecting the breakfast issue, Holiday Inn Heathrow T5 Colnbrook always offer me free breakfast but only on a Reward stay, never a paid stay, and that was as a Platinum.
The hotel is not supposed to offer you free breakfast, even if you are Spire. If you are offered just remember to thank them and keep quiet.
