Yes, there's a reason to downgrade - the corporate policy changes to only allow PE instead of J as cost-cutting. (Or maybe J only on overnight flights or flights over, say, 9 hours). This was probably the biggest risk airlines had to face when deciding whether or not to go ahead with PE. I think the foreign carriers that were earlier with the PE product proved out that the cannibalization of J sales is lower than the trade-up from Y, particularly when factoring in the much smaller footprint and operating costs of PE vs. J. But it *still* took a few more years before any of the US-based carriers were willing to take the leap and install PE, and DL and UA still have a long way to go in rolling it out.
