Would a 789 really increase the overall number of seats? I was under the impression that, while the aircraft is bigger, the F cabin ends up reducing the overall seat number?

If BA has this as J2, you can be reasonably sure that there will be seats on the day. With all the strike chaos going on a lot of people will not make the flights they are currently booked on.
