If the problem is people not going to HKG (and I am sure a lot of people are not going), then wouldn't not adding the 2nd flight from SFO be the less disruptive alternative? Maybe Chicago yield was bad to start with and this provides a good reason to cut?
Not if they're still seeing strong demand on SFO-HKG and less on ORD-HKG. Or if there are other operational concerns involved (what else is that airframe doing, etc).
