The First Bag Free benefit becomes an attribute of a SkyMiles account when a DL Amex card of some kind is associated to that SkyMiles account. Once a SkyMiles account has an Amex card tied to it, the SkyMiles account holder gets the First Bag Free benefit - no matter how tickets are purchased.
