This kind of stuff costs all of us who play by the rules, as every time Hyatt gives a cheater/whiner something they aren't entitled to, costs rise a bit, and this pushes them in the direction of cutting benefits. You think someone doesn't pay when they a) pay a commission to a third party, and b) give you all sorts of free stuff? We ALL pay when that happens. Who doesn't understand that when Hyatt DOESN'T pay 10% to Expedia, they share a portion of the money they save with YOU in the form of points and perks?
Why not just go in and expect to play by the rules (get nothing) and be surprised/delighted when they give you something?
End rant.
Although I mostly agree...
1. Some people end up stuck on ineligible rates for factors outside of their control (events, company travel policies, etc.) It's not irrational to ask whether the benefits are due to you being such a great person, or due to the rate...
2. If only Expedia was a 10% commission. More like 20-25%, which is how hotels.com can pay for 10th free, the travel world's highest marketing budget and still print money...
