I think updating the wiki to state that the $5K spend counter resets at the start of a new year is jumping the gun. Datapoints are stronger than customer service statements on something like this, even those in writing. There is only 1 year of DPs and every DP showed that spending $4,999 in 2018 and $1 in Jan 2019 resulted in 2 Qualifying Nights for 2019. Sure, they could have changed it, but it is more likely that the customer service team, and maybe even a supervisor, didn't understand the question in full or doesn't know how the system worked at the start of this year.
