I'd like to think that flights only push off early when all confirmed checked in paxs are onboard. Ideally the GA would see that paxs are transiting from a flight that has arrived late and particularly the last flight of the day would hold off closing the doors to at least T-5. Other than crew timing out or the Captain's concern of losing a take off slot pushing off the gate a few minutes late shouldn't cause an issue. Your best bet would be if you're trying to get to your next flight before the door closes ask one of the GAs at your arriving gate to call your departures gate and let them know your in route. Don't stop, as common sense as that seems too many people have this belief the flight is going to just sit there and wait.
