BTW passenger might not be a confirmed passenger for comp if BA flight was overbooked. It depends how the AA agent handled the rebooking. (If passenger was confirmed and reticketed vs doing a proper DoD moving of passenger to another carrier (a FIM). Regardless this has no bearing on this situation.
There is nothing in the OP, unless I am missing something, that suggests that the BA flight was delayed 4+ hours
