When the TFL went to support Apple Pay in the London Underground, the Sydney papers noticed it but the metro systems there and in Melbourne said they won't abandon their own fare card schemes any time soon.
They support contactless in Sydney now IIRC, just you don't get all the benefits of an OPAL card.
