I have seen as many as 50 upgrades on list for domestic AA flights. Even as an EXP I've been as low as
#20 on those kinds of lists (usually not top, but 3-10 at worst). Rarely do I see many on international long haul upgrade lists - sometimes none - even when ExpertFlyer says it's wide open and there are upgrades available.
I agree that the protests plus the fact it is a Tuesday had a lot to do with the empty cabin. I thought the upgrades would come through earlier because of the empty cabin. I have been on this flight with as many as 50 people on the upgrade list. Of course the bright side is I cleared soon enough to get the seat I wanted plus per order the dinner selection.
