Maybe because of the launch of Apple Card (on the Mastercard network), it is somewhat about trying to tell people about the contactless innovation, but it is likely more about concerns on losing wallet share for spending. I still also only have one Visa with contactless (Chase - upon website request). BofA, Barclays, etc. still are not enabled for me.
Visa was promoting contactless before the Apple Card announcement, though. And if people were taking to mobile wallets as quickly as banks expected, I highly doubt they'd be trying the cards again (especially since they flopped at least once before).
