Is it possible if I short check my bags after SIN-HKG, take them out and got to CX counter to check in for HKG-SYD?
or what would happen if I simply "forgot" to collect them and try to get them back few hours later after immediate turn from PVG.

Left luggage will not work as my flight to PVG is at 7:20am.

Turn around time at PVG is about 2 hours, and I do prefer not to bring the stuff I'm carrying into PVG as might get tax and delay my transfer.
Short check is possible, I did that before but I was staying the night in HKG, so after landing in HKG, I dropped my bags at the Regal Airport hotel came back to the airport to do the PEK turn around...
