Some options for the future:

1) Agree to call a 3rd party (friend, relative, a hotel, a Seven-Eleven where you've tipped the clerk, whatever) as a middleman, and each of you check in from time to time to see if anything's changed. Or use your remotely-checkable voicemail as a place for him or her to leave a message.

3) Agree to a meeting point that's a fun place to be and is going to be open when each of you would get there.

2) If the hookup doesn't take place, write each other e-mails asking/explaining what's happening.

4) The flyer asks at the gate for them to please pass a message on to you, letting you know of the change (since it was their fault anyway)

5) Make him take a cab next time.
