The Cash Rewards online category can be a little wonky, but I've found that I've had more improperly earned 3x purchases than proper ones that have failed to earn 3x. The main cause of failures has generally been that pesky Y/N flag being set to N for whatever reason. If you care to do your banking with BofA and achieve a Preferred Rewards status, it would make those 1x failures worth 1.25% (Gold), 1.5% (Platinum), or 1.87% (Platinum Honors) instead of 1%. Also, getting a 2nd CR card set to a different 3x category sounds like an interesting idea to me.

Overall, I'm pretty pleased with how BofA has buffed this card.
