I guess it takes all kinds. I think *not* having screens flashing at me throughout the flight is a huge benefit. I don't have a TV at home, and I'm not great at tuning it out, even when there's no sound. I find myself constantly distracted by those screens if I have to suffer through a flight with them. I hate TVs in bars and restaurants too.
But I'm with you on wanting power outlets! I have a universal battery (about the size and shape of my laptop) that can power my laptop for twelve hours, and it's totally worth lugging the thing around for those five and half hour flights.
