N918DH did not return to service for two days so it would not be too surprising if it went tech. Needless to say if it had been something like a medical emergency, the plane could have headed back to BHM in a relatively short time.

But even when the MD-90 and MD-11 entered service during the 1990s, seems both were saddled with poor reliability and performance shortfalls from the get go. Perhaps a sad reflection of how much Douglas/McDonnell Douglas had declined.
