It doesn’t sound like you have, or you would know that the TSA generally requires adults to show an ID and their boarding pass in order to proceed to the security screening to be conducted on passenger’s body and belongings.
They're referring to an ID check at the gate airside, not at security checkpoint or the check-in counter.
