Slightly different question; I stopped at the AMEX desk at ATL a month ago to consider the “Gold to Platinum AMEX” card upgrade, and after discussing my situation with the rep, she also said not to upgrade, and instead apply for the Platinum and “Immediately cancel the Gold once I received the Platinum card”. I didn’t cancel the Gold, is there a reason to other than to avoid the two annual fees? I’m getting two checked bags free now, so may keep both unless there are other reasons not to hold both a Gold and a Platinum?
