You reach the right conclusion for the wrong reasons.
You don't take the check (MO) and run and deposit it - because it is WRONG and you know that they are short the money.
The reason is not because it is a bad check ... it ISN'T. The MO is good - it has been paid for - MG isn't short any money. Walmart is short the money because the cashier pressed a button saying they received $500 cash as opposed to $500 debit. So let's not blather about that MO are bad ... once they are printed the MO has the money.
I've had this happen a few times where their cash drawer pops open or the transaction finishes before I put my PIN in. You are morally obligated then to volunteer to the CSR that there is a problem and they need their manager to come over and help fix it.
