I guess there is no real explanation. If I didn't have the Delta miles I'd have pushed VA harder, but honestly since AF shows the same availability as VA I doubt I would make much progress.

I'm actually doing a connection in SCL to get from Australia to the USA over Christmas on points (you'd never find direct flights on points in this time period), I arrive on the 18th and didn't want to risk a delay so grabbing the 20th with DL was preferable to missing out.
