I'm wondering what this means for your flight - it sounds that it may possibly be overbooked.
It happens from time to time as flights are overbooked, even when trying to make a dummy booking seat selection will be unavailable.
If OP can provide the exact date, someone with EF access can try and have a look at the load factor, alternatively try to make a dummy booking with FB status.
