Colonel Knight, a Major at the time, flew the last USAF single propeller attack aircraft, a Douglas A-1E Skyraider, when he was shot down over Laos. We used to call them “Spads” in Vietnam in 1965. Notice these ex-Navy aircraft still have tailhooks. (Articles have mentioned he was flying a ‘jet’ - nope.)
