I have seen a lot of new staff at the check in desks lately (last 2 months) so imagine there is still some training / learning to be done regarding diamond privileges and so I'd just ask at the spa along the lines of 'diamonds can still use the spa for free right?' type of question...where they will know and can give a better answer. I know it is a pain to not be consistent throughout the hotel and to have to ask at the spa itself instead but this is the best way to be sure....
