70K one way is the average for J across oceans. As far as your membership with AA to get elite status, well you have to fly AA a lot and spend $$$$$ a lot
If you are traveling on AA frequently then attaining status is of no point. (why do you want status?)
As to your other question, having status with a J award ticket does not mean anything. You will enjoy the perks of sitting in J , regardless of your status.
You will also have lounge access for your trip.
The taxes for this trip seem a bit high, flying on AA metal will reduce that amount
