But this is the sort of screwy situation that these rules don't really handle well, since in a sense you are occupying both rooms in a sense.
Actually, there are many scenarios in which an Elite member might want to pay for rooms at two Marriott properties for the same night. But the Elite member would still only stay in one room. The other room would be empty, or a family member might stay there.

I suppose there could even be the scenario of a family spilt across two hotels, with a parent who sleeps 4 hours in each room. Even in that case, the T&Cs language that Marriott Bonvoy Lurker noted is rather clear.

The only case that I could imagine where an Elite member could legitimately claim stays in two hotels on the same calendar date would be if that member stayed in the Marriott property on the west side of the International Date Line, flew eastbound the next morning, arrived the previous calendar day, and then checked into another Marriott property that evening. In that case, the member would legitimately be staying personally for two consecutive nights, with each night having the same calendar date. As far as I know, that's not possible with Marriott's current portfolio of properties and current airline schedules. But I could be mistaken. Does anyone know of actual Marriott properties and actual flights for which this scenario would work?
