Element is an extended stay brand. It was Starwood's hip answer to Marriott's Residence Inn brand. Now Marriott offers three variations of "extended stay" to hotel developers/owners: Residence Inn (traditional), Element (hip), and TownPlace Suites (economical).
Moxy was launched by Marriott and hotel developer Vastint Hospitality (when it was still called Inter IKEA Group) as a youthful select-service brand. This was before Marriott owned Aloft. Moxy is positioned below Aloft and AC Hotels on Marriott's spectrum of economy to luxury. Moxy hotels have a completely different vibe than Fairfield, Marriott's traditional lower-end brand. Moxy properties tend to be in cities of various sizes, near airports, and adjacent to convention centers.
