As a customer, I am not concerned with the airlines tactics to maximize profit. I am sure they would charge you $100k for a seat, if they could. As for UA specifically, they have shown their true colors in their contemptuous attitude in how they treat their customers, with the Dao case exemplifying it.
The European courts have clearly ruled on the side of the passenger; you pay for a nonrefundable ticket, you can do whatever you want with it, fly it all or only half. As of today, no court has rule in favor of the airlines regarding skipping segments.
I personally don’t fly UA or do HCT, anyway.
EU courts don’t really have relevance in the US, since those rulings don’t apply here. So for the purposes of this discussion in relation to UA, it doesn’t matter.
Second, since we’re bringing up the relevance of different items, the Dao situation has zero relevance to the topic at hand.
