Come on, is the law really the problem here? I don't like "group punishment" so I disagree with this law, but the concept of having a $10 fine for eating/drinking on Metro grounds isn't the problem. It's jackbooted thug cops cuffing, arresting, and detaining folks for a violation that results in a $10 fine. It's like jailing drivers caught going 5 over the limit, which is in fact a problem in some backwards states. Of the three most egregious Metro cases I've heard, one involved a 12-year-old girl eating a single french fry and getting hauled off, and two others involved people that were warned not to eat, put the last bit of food in their mouth
before entering the station, and continued to chew after crossing the station threshold. The thugs who arrested them nailed them for the chewing and for making fun of the cops for following them; those arrests completely violate the spirit of the law. (Chewing poses no risk of litter, and though it's supid for the people do have made fun of the cop, he deserved it.)
