One way to adjust your mindset is to stop thinking of award flights and rooms as "free". They are not.
Think of points and miles simply as another form of currency and assign a value to each type of points.
Do you feel guilty paying for a coffee, a beer or your weekly groceries in Dollars, when you could be paying in Rand or Shekels? No? Points and miles are just the same - a different form of payment.
