So you get a zone that corresponds to the row hence in the back you board earlier than in or more toward the front. It's hard to understand the concern, because all airlines have done this for ages.

In a galaxy far away and long long ago. Ok, maybe not that far or long. In the 80s, 90s before zone boarding, the gate agents would invite the business cabin to board at their convenience, the anounce rows 25-15 (or whatever) than everyone. No need for zone numbers or lanes. Both WestJet and Air Canada use to do things this way.
Then the evil empire arrive. Ok, maybe it was just an army of sanchion sales people who convinced airline executives that having there passengers line up in neat lines divided up with sanchions would bring back happy memory of lining up in kindergarten class in the minds of their customers.
