DL at times has used the same flight number for ATL-LAX and LAX-SYD. Some people have missed the second part when the first segment is delayed. Even if it's the same aircraft type, there tends to be an aircraft change as it takes much longer than MCT to prep and cater an aircraft for a longhaul flight. DL wants the computer to show a direct flight with as the scheduled time being as short as possible.
Thanks.
This seems to explain the totally different flight from ATL-BOS on DL, that was on different equipment than what was used on our recent BOS-EDI.
(I had trouble even finding the second flight, the one we were on, such as on SeatGuru, which only showed the first flight, with totally different seating, of course.)
I couldn't quite figure out what was going on.
However, it DOES explain something truly annoying that happened a couple of decades ago.
We paid *extra* to get a non-stop ... and were we ever surprised to find that not only did we have a stop, but then... that we had a change of planes.
It was bad enough that it wasn't a non-stop, or even direct... but we had paid *extra* for it!
