Since I don't use an iPhone at present, I can't comment too much on Apple maps, other than to say it is clearly better than Google.

I do have also (高德) on my android, but I prefer baidu maps. Even if your Chinese ability is limited, it's pretty easy to get by using Pinyin inputs most of the time. And, if you don't know the Pinyin or characters for a location (e.g. the Chinese names for some hotels are not always obvious), a simple Google or baidu search is typically sufficient to clear things up.
